Cubic volume of granted building permits increased by 8 per cent in January 2026 from one year back

According to Statistics Finland, the annual cubic volume of construction actions having been granted a building permit for newbuilding increased by eight per cent in January 2026 from one year ago. Building permits were granted for a total of 33 million cubic metres between February 2025 and January 2026. Over the period, building projects totalling 30 million cubic metres were completed, which was 12 per cent up from one year earlier.

Cubic volume covered by granted building permits was bigger than one year ago in ten regions

The annual total cubic volume of building permits granted for newbuilding was highest in Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa in January 2026. The cubic volume was bigger than one year earlier in ten regions.

The annual total of the cubic volume of completed building projects was highest in Uusimaa and North Ostrobothnia in January 2026. The cubic volume went up in fourteen regions.

In the whole country, the annual total of new dwellings completed at building sites was 19,851 in January 2026, which was six per cent lower than one year earlier. Among the regions, most dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 8,957. Compared to the previous year, the number of completed new dwellings increased in eight regions.
