Cubic volume of granted building permits increased by 10 per cent in February 2026 from one year back
release | Building stock and new production 2026, FebruaryAccording to Statistics Finland, the annual cubic volume of construction actions having been granted a building permit for newbuilding increased by ten per cent in February 2026 from one year ago. Building permits were granted for a total of nearly 34 million cubic metres between March 2025 and February 2026. Over the period, building projects totalling 29 million cubic metres were completed, which was 8 per cent up from one year earlier.

- In February 2026, the annual cubic volume of building permits granted for residential buildings decreased by four per cent. The cubic volume of other than residential building construction went up by 14 per cent.
- Building permits were granted for a total of 16,586 dwellings, which was 13 per cent less than one year earlier.

Cubic volume covered by granted building permits was bigger than one year ago in eleven regions
The annual total cubic volume of building permits granted for newbuilding was highest in Uusimaa and Pirkanmaa in February 2026. The cubic volume was bigger than one year earlier in eleven regions.
The annual total of the cubic volume of completed building projects was highest in Uusimaa and North Ostrobothnia in February 2026. The cubic volume went up in fourteen regions.
In the whole country, the annual total of new dwellings completed at building sites was 19,961 in February 2026, which was three per cent lower than one year earlier. Among the regions, most dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 9,171. Compared to the previous year, the number of completed new dwellings increased in nine regions.
