Wages and salaries sum increased in December 2025 year-on-year

According to Statistics Finland’s data, the working day adjusted wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 0.7 per cent higher in December 2025 than in December 2024. The seasonally adjusted wages and salaries sum of the whole economy decreased by 0.1 per cent in December from the previous month.

Wages and salaries sum increased by 0.1 per cent year-on-year in the private sector in December
The working day adjusted wages and salaries sum was 0.1 per cent higher in the private sector in December than twelve months earlier. The wages and salaries sum in the public sector was 1.9 per cent higher than a year earlier in the corresponding period. In the private sector, the seasonally adjusted wages and salaries sum did not change from the month before but decreased in the public sector by 0.2 per cent in December.
Wages and salaries sum decreased in most main industries in the private sector
The working day adjusted wages and salaries sum decreased in December 2025 in majority of main industries but increased in the industries of finance and insurance, manufacturing and trade compared to December 2024. The working day adjusted wages and salaries sum increased moderately in the industries of finance and insurance (3.3%), manufacturing (1.8%) and trade (1.3%). At the same period the working day adjusted wages and salaries sum decreased significantly in the industry of private health and social work (-6.1%). There was also moderate decrease in the industries of private education (-2.6%), construction (-1.1%) and other services (-0.4%).
The factors caused by the variation in the number of weekdays are taken into account in adjustment for working days. This means taking into consideration the lengths of months, different weekdays and holidays. In addition, seasonal variation is eliminated from seasonally adjusted series, on account of which it makes sense to compare observations of two successive months as well.
