Wages and salaries sum increased in April 2026 year-on-year
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland’s data, the working day adjusted wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 2.5 per cent higher in April 2026 than in April 2025. The seasonally adjusted wages and salaries sum of the whole economy increased by 0.3 per cent in April from the previous month.

Wages and salaries sum increased by 1.2 per cent year-on-year in the private sector in April
The working day adjusted wages and salaries sum was 1.2 per cent higher in the private sector in April than twelve months earlier. The wages and salaries sum in the public sector was 6.2 per cent higher than a year earlier in the corresponding period. In the private sector, the seasonally adjusted wages and salaries sum decreased by 0.4 per cent and increased in the public sector by 1.4 per cent in April from the month before.
Wages and salaries sum grew in most main industries in the private sector
The working day adjusted wages and salaries sum grew in April 2026 in all other main industries but decreased in the industry of private education compared to April 2025. The working day adjusted wages and salaries sum increased significantly in the industry of finance and insurance (11.1 %). The growth was moderate in the industries of other services (1.4 %), manufacturing (1.2 %), trade (0.7 %), construction (0.2 %) and private health and social work (0.2 %). At the same period the working day adjusted wages and salaries sum decreased in the industry of private education (-1.4 %).
The factors caused by the variation in the number of weekdays are taken into account in adjustment for working days. This means taking into consideration the lengths of months, different weekdays and holidays. In addition, seasonal variation is eliminated from seasonally adjusted series, on account of which it makes sense to compare observations of two successive months as well.
