Accrual of environmental taxes fell by 3.7 per cent in 2024
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland, the accrual of environmental taxes was EUR six billion in 2024, which was 3.7 per cent lower than one year earlier. The fall was particularly caused by a drop in the accrual of energy and transport taxes.

- The accrual of environmental taxes fell by 3.7 per cent in 2024 and amounted to EUR six billion, which corresponded to around five per cent of total tax revenue.
- The accrual of energy taxes went down by 2.8 per cent from the previous year to EUR 4.5 billion. The fall was particularly visible in the energy taxes paid by households and manufacturing.
- The accrual of transport taxes diminished by 6.6 per cent to EUR 1.4 million, especially taxes paid by households decreased.
- Of environmental taxes, 76 per cent or EUR 4.5 billion were energy taxes, EUR 1.4 billion transport taxes, EUR 15 million emission taxes and EUR 26 million resource taxes.
- Environmental taxes were paid most by households, accounting for 46 per cent of all environmental taxes. The accrual of households' environmental taxes fell by 5.6 per cent from the previous year.
