Number of household-dwelling units increased in the last quarter of 2025

According to Statistics Finland, there were 2,865,000 household-dwelling units at the end of December 2025. The number of household-dwelling units grew by 6,300 from the previous quarter. The growth was biggest for household-dwelling units where the oldest person was aged at least 60. The number of household-dwelling units of those aged under 30 decreased by around one thousand.

Key selections

  • The number of persons living alone grew most in December 2025 compared to the September data. The growth in the number of persons living alone particularly concerned persons aged 60 or over.
  • The number of young people aged under 30 living alone decreased by 1,600 and that of two young persons living together grew by 700.
  • The number of household-dwelling units increased most in Uusimaa, Pirkanmaa and Southwest Finland.
