Number of household-dwelling units almost unchanged in the first quarter of 2026

According to Statistics Finland, there were 2,864,000 household-dwelling units at the end of March 2026. The number was almost the same as in the quarterly data from the end of last year. The number of young people’s household-dwelling units decreased most, by around 4,000. The number of household-dwelling units of people in other age groups grew by almost the same number.

Key selections

  • In the first quarter of 2026, the number of household-dwelling units with two persons decreased by 1,600 and the number of persons living alone grew by 700 compared to the quarterly data from the end of last year.
  • The number of household-dwelling units increased most in Uusimaa, in other regions the number remained almost unchanged or decreased slightly.
  • Some household-dwelling units living at their free-time residences, for example, are missing from the quarterly data.
