Error found in the classification of waste from mining and quarrying was
corrected
The error concerning waste recorded in the classification of non-hazardous waste from mining and quarrying was corrected and the correction caused the amount of non-hazardous mineral waste to decrease by 2.3 million tonnes in the waste statistics for 2022.
Based on the EU’s Waste Statistics Regulation and Waste Framework Directive, part of waste from mining and quarrying is not included in waste statistics if it is utilised in mining and quarrying as quarry fill for mining safety reasons.
Database tables, release charts and release tables were updated because of the correction of the error.
