Universities' research and development

The inquiry on universities' research and development collects data on R&D activity on personnel, expenditure, sources of financing, investments and grants awarded to R&D activity. The data on time-use of personnel is collected every 3 to 5 years.

Recommendations of the OECD and EU are observed in the compilation of the statistics.

Commission Regulation (EC) No 2019/2152 requires the collection of data on universities research and development and their delivery to Eurostat. It also steers the compilation of the statistics.

The data collection is started annually in March. The deadline for the data collection is in April.
