Description

The statistics on university of applied sciences education contain data on new students in education leading to a university of applied sciences degree, students of universities of applied sciences, and university of applied sciences degrees. The information is based on data collected from the national database of higher education institutions (VIRTA). The data on students describe the situation on 20th of September. New students refer to those who have reported themselves for the first time as present or absent for the degree in question at the university of applied sciences concerned. The data on degrees relate to the whole calendar year. In accordance with the Statistics Act, the personal data from which these statistics are compiled are confidential. As a rule, the statistics produced from them are public.

Data content

The statistics contains information about students and degrees attained yearly in university of applied sciences education.

Classifications used

The statistical data contain Statistics Finland's, the Educational Administration's and international classifications of fields and levels of education, classifications describing types of educational institutions and various regional and demographic classifications.

Data collection methods and data sources

Starting from the statistical reference year 2014, data on universities of applied sciences degrees, and starting from the statistical reference year 2015, data on universities of applied sciences students are produced based on the individual-based data supplied from the national database of higher education institutions (VIRTA). Prior to this, student and degree data have been collected as individual-based data direct from the educational institutions.

Updating frequency

The statistics are produced yearly.

Time of completion or release

Data on students and degrees are complete in April of the year after the statistical year.

Time series

Annual data on students have been produced since 1991. More detailed data on students are available starting from 1999 and on degrees from 1994.
