Sales of retail trade grew by 7.6 per cent in January
According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales were 7.6 per cent higher in January 2008 than one year previously. Department store sales grew by 7.3 per cent and daily consumer goods sales by 9.7 per cent in the same period. Strong growth was also recorded in wholesale trade and motor vehicle trade. In wholesale trade the growth from the previous year's corresponding month amounted to 15.1 per cent and in motor vehicle trade to 12.0 per cent. In total trade the growth of sales accelerated to 12.9 per cent in January.
Growth of turnover in total trade (incl. motor vehicle, wholesale and retail trade) was 7.2 per cent in 2007. The value of retail trade sales was 7.0 per cent higher in 2007 than in the year before. Wholesale trade grew by 7.8 per cent and motor vehicle trade by 5.3 per cent.
