Sales in retail trade grew by 4.7 per cent in October

According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales were 4.7 per cent higher in October 2008 than one year earlier. Sales volume grew by 0.2 per cent in the same time period. Department store sales grew by 5.0 per cent and daily consumer goods sales by 10.2 per cent. In wholesale trade, sales grew by 6.9 per cent whereas in motor vehicle trade sales fell by 3.7 per cent from twelve months back. In total trade, sales went up by 4.7 per cent in October.

The cumulative annual change in retail trade sales over the January to October period was 6.6 per cent. Over the same time period the corresponding growth in motor vehicle sales was 4.7 per cent and in wholesale trade sales 11.7 per cent. In total trade, sales grew by 9.3 per cent year-on-year in the January to October period.
