Sales of retail trade grew by 4.6 per cent in December
According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales increased by 4.6 per cent last December from December 2010. Over the same time period, the volume of retail trade sales grew by 2.1 per cent. In daily consumer goods trade, sales grew by 4.7 per cent and in department store trade by 1.3 per cent. By contrast, wholesale trade sales fell by 0.9 per cent. In motor vehicle trade, in turn, sales were up by 13.9 per cent year-on-year. In total trade, sales grew by 2.4 per cent in December.

During 2011, retail trade sales increased by 5.2 per cent from 2010. The volume of retail trade sales was 2.3 per cent up on the previous year. Wholesale trade sales grew by 7.8 per cent and motor vehicle sales by 16.9 per cent. Compared to the previous year, sales in total trade increased by 8.2 per cent over the year.
