Total trade sales fell by 3.3 per cent year-on-year in April
According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales decreased by 2.9 per cent in April from April 2014. In daily consumer goods trade, sales contracted by 2.3 per cent and in department store trade by 8.7 per cent from one year ago. Wholesale trade sales also fell by 4.9 per cent from the year before. In turn, motor vehicle sales grew by 3.0 per cent from April 2014. Sales decreased in total trade by 3.3 per cent from April 2014.

In April, the sales volume in retail trade decreased by 1.9 per cent and in wholesale trade by 3.6 per cent from one year back. In motor vehicle trade, the sales volume, in turn, went up by 3.5 per cent from April 2014. Thus, the volume of total sales was 2.1 per cent lower in April than one year earlier. The volume index of sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the value index series.
Retail trade sales fell by 1.0 per cent in January to April year-on-year
In the January to April period, sales contracted by 1.0 per cent in retail trade and by 4.7 per cent in wholesale trade compared to January to April 2014. Sales in motor vehicle trade, in turn, increased by 0.1 per cent from the corresponding period in 2014. Total trade sales went down by 3.0 per cent over the corresponding period.
