Building construction enterprises’ renovation building projects generated to EUR 6.8 billion in 2015

According to Statistics Finland, the value of building projects was EUR 17.1 billion in building construction enterprises with at least five employees in 2015. Of building construction work carried out by the enterprises, EUR 6.8 billion was directed to renovation building of which EUR four billion, was generated in specialised construction enterprises.

Newbuilding and renovation building of building construction enterprises

Growth in renovation building slowed down

In 2015, the value of building projects of building construction enterprises was EUR 17.1 billion. Newbuilding construction projects amounted to EUR 10.3 billion and renovation building projects to EUR 6.8 billion. In building construction projects, the growth in renovation building petered out slightly from recent years. The growth in the value of newbuilding construction projects was affected by large construction projects that were ongoing at the time.

Altogether, EUR 9.1 billion consisted of the profits of large enterprises focusing on main contracts in building construction, of which nearly 70 per cent came from renovation building of residential and other buildings. The share of renovation building projects of all projects was clearly larger among smaller building construction enterprises and specialised construction enterprises.

Of renovation projects, 52 per cent were renovations of other than residential buildings. Among large construction enterprises, more than one-half of income came from renovations of other than residential buildings, such as office, business, public and industrial buildings. Correspondingly, among smaller construction enterprises, over 50 per cent of income from renovations came from renovation of residential buildings.

The statistics on construction enterprises' renovation building are based on a sample of building construction enterprises with at least five employees. The inquiry comprises approximately 1,000 enterprises.
