Growth in wages and salaries sum slowed down to 0.3 per cent in February to April

The wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 0.3 per cent greater in the past February to April period than in the corresponding period twelve months before. The rate of growth slowed down from the previous year's February to April period during which the year-on-year growth in the wages and salaries sum was 8.7 per cent. In April the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 2.2 per cent from the year before.

The growth in the wages and salaries sum slowed down in almost all main industries in the February to April period. The wages and salaries sum grew more favourably than in the year before only in the private educational services sector (7.8%). By contrast, the wages and salaries sum fell in manufacturing (8.0%), financial intermediation (4.4%) and construction (1.4%). In trade and other services the growth in the wages and salaries sum slowed down clearly from the year before.
