Nights spent by domestic tourists increased by nearly 5 per cent in April
The number of recorded nights spent by domestic tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments in April 2010 was 1.1 million, which was nearly 5 per cent higher than in April 2009. Overnight stays by foreign tourists decreased by three per cent from April 2009. The total number of nights spent grew by three per cent from April 2009 and rose to 1.4 million overnightings. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland's statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 10 rooms, cottages, or caravan pitches with electricity connection, and youth hostels.

Russians were the largest group of foreign tourists in April 2010. They spent 46,000 nights at Finnish accommodation establishments. The number was nearly 16 per cent higher than one year previously. Swedes were next with 30,000 nights spent. The number of their overnight stays decreased by just under one per cent. German tourists came third with 24,000 overnight stays, which was just short of one per cent up on April 2009. Overnight stays by British tourists decreased most, or by as much as 34 per cent. Tourism decreased by between nine and 12 per cent from France, USA and the Netherlands, and by 18 per cent from Italy and Spain. By contrast, tourism from Estonia and Norway increased. Estonian tourists spent nearly 22 per cent more and Norwegian tourists four per cent more nights in Finland than in April of the previous year.
