Nights spent by foreign tourists in Finland decreased by 4 per cent in May

The number of recorded nights spent by foreign tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments in May 2010 was 320,000, which was four per cent lower than in May 2009. By contrast, the number of nights spent by domestic tourists at accommodation establishments was almost unchanged from one year earlier. The total number of overnight stays decreased by one per cent from last year and was 1.2 million in May 2010. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland's statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 10 rooms, cottages, or caravan pitches with electricity connection, and youth hostels.

Swedish visitors were the second largest group of foreign tourists with 44,000 overnight stays. The number was two per cent higher than last year. German visitors were the third largest group with 30,000 recorded overnight stays, even though the number was 10 per cent lower than one year earlier.
