Nights spent by resident tourists increased by 6 per cent in June 2019
Overnight stays by resident tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments increased by 6.4 per cent from last year and 1.67 million nights were recorded for them in June 2019. Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 4.8 per cent and 0.61 million overnight stays were recorded for non-resident tourists. Finnish accommodation establishments recorded a total of 2.28 million overnight stays, which was 5.9 per cent more than one year before. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland’s statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 20 beds or caravan pitches with electricity connection.

Overnight stays by Germans increased most in June 2019
Among the most important countries of inbound tourism to Finland, overnight stays by Germans increased most in absolute numbers, by 8,900 nights. This was 12 per cent higher than in the year before. The biggest drop was seen in overnight stays by Russians, down by 1,500 nights. Their overnight stays were three per cent down on June 2018.
The biggest group of non-resident tourists were German with 84,000 overnight stays. The second largest group was Swedes with 58,400 overnight stays. The third largest group was Russians with 56,100 overnight stays, and fourth was tourists from the U.S. with 38,900 overnight stays. The fifth largest group was Chinese tourists (34,500 nights), sixth was British visitors (28,300 nights), seventh Estonian tourists (20,900 nights) and eight Japanese visitors (19,700 nights).
Overnight stays increased most in Ostrobothnia in June 2019
Examined by region, overnight stays increased most in relative terms in Ostrobothnia by 16 per cent, and second most in South Karelia by 14 per cent. By contrast, the overall number of overnight stays decreased most in relative terms in Central Ostrobothnia by four per cent and second most in Satakunta by three per cent.
Accommodation establishments in Uusimaa recorded 342,000 overnight stays by non-resident tourists and accommodation establishments in Lapland 60,000. Overnight stays by non-resident tourists increased by 8.3 per cent in Uusimaa and by 9.9 per cent in Lapland from one year ago. The share of Uusimaa in all overnight stays by foreign visitors was 56 per cent and that of Lapland 10 per cent.

Overnight stays in hotels increased by 5.8 per cent in June 2019
The total number of nights spent in hotels was 1.68 million, which was 5.8 per cent more than twelve months earlier. Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 2.9 per cent and hotels recorded a total of 501,000 overnight stays for them. Recorded nights spent by resident tourists in hotels numbered 1.18 million. The number was 7.1 per cent higher than June 2018.
Among the regions, the highest occupancy rates of hotel rooms were measured in Uusimaa, 76.6 per cent, and in Southwest Finland, 68.6 per cent. In Helsinki, the hotel room occupancy rate was 81.7 per cent, 62.0 per cent in Tampere, 77.6 per cent in Turku, 62.6 per cent in Oulu and 52.7 per cent in Rovaniemi.
In June 2019, the realised average price of a hotel room was EUR 111.92 per day for the whole country. Twelve months earlier, it was EUR 105.12. There was a total of 55,684 hotel rooms available in Finland, which was 1,366 more than in June 2018.

Total number of nights spent grew by 2.8 per cent in January to June 2019
In January to June 2019, a total of 10.57 million nights were spent in Finnish accommodation establishments. This was 2.8 per cent higher than in the corresponding period one year earlier. In all, 7.29 million overnight stays were recorded for resident tourists and 3.28 million for non-resident tourists. The number of nights spent by resident tourists increased by 3.1 per cent and nights spent by non-resident tourists by 2.2 per cent from the previous year.
Among the most important countries of inbound tourism to Finland, overnight stays by Chinese increased most in absolute numbers, by 29,300 nights. This was 20 per cent higher than in the year before. The biggest drop was seen in overnight stays by Russians, down by 15,800 nights. Their overnight stays were four per cent down on January to June 2018.
The biggest group of non-resident tourists were Russians with 409,000 overnight stays. The second largest group was Germans with 318,000 overnight stays. The third largest group was Britons with 238,000 overnight stays, and fourth were Swedes with 226,000 overnight stays. The fifth largest group was French visitors (209,000 nights), sixth was Chinese tourists (179,000 nights), seventh was Dutch visitors (161,000 nights) and eight was visitors from the U.S. (150,000 nights).
