Six million hours of teaching were given in adult education not leading to a qualification in 2014
According to data collected by Statistics Finland from educational institutions, a total of nearly 6.2 million hours of teaching were given in adult education not leading to a qualification in 2014, which is around 13 per cent more than in the year before. There were close on one per cent more participants (gross number of students) than in the year before, altogether 2.2 million.

The highest number of participants attended education organised as liberal adult education, where the gross number of students was good 1.6 million and their net number was around 950,000. The number of teaching hours was also highest in liberal adult education, at good 2.9 million hours. The highest share (26 per cent) of all the teaching hours given in adult education not leading to a qualification was given in the field of culture, where the most popular subjects were music, and crafts and design.
In 2014, students in basic level education outside comprehensive school in upper secondary general schools, folk high schools, adult education centres and vocational institutes numbered 2,112, of whom 1,564 were in basic education, that is studying the full comprehensive school curriculum and 548 attended additional education (10th grade).
