Turnover in service industries fell by 5.7 per cent in November to January

Total turnover generated by service industries contracted by 5.7 per cent in the November to January period compared with the respective three-month period of the previous year. During the previous three-month period that ended in October, turnover in service industries diminished by 9.6 from one year back. Towards the end of the review period turnover was growing in arts, entertainment and recreation and in real estate activities. Services are here examined exclusive of trade and the data have been adjusted for working days by eliminating the effects of calendar variations from them.

Although the fall in turnover in transport and storage seems to have slowed down, turnover in the enterprises of that industry contracted by 9.1 per cent from one year ago. Turnover in professional, scientific and technical activities was 9.9 per cent lower than in the same period of the previous year. In November to January, turnover in art, entertainment and recreation grew by 7.1 per cent.

Tax account reform causes revisions to the data of turnover indices

Starting from data on January 2010, the turnover indices will be compiled from data on the periodic tax returns allowed in the Tax Administration's tax account reform. According to our analysis the impact on these statistics from the implemented tax account reform will remain quite minor. However, slightly less data than before will be available for January 2010, which may mean that the January time series of the turnover indices become slightly revised in future releases. Further information about the impacts of the changes in the data on the turnover indices can be found under Revisions in these statistics . Information about the tax account reform is also available on the Tax Administration's website at: www.vero.fi .
