Turnover in service industries grew by 1.9 per cent in September to November

According to Statistics Finland, turnover generated by service industries grew by 1.9 per cent in September to November of 2015 when compared with the respective period one year previously. One year previously, turnover went up by 4.0 per cent over the same period. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

In the September to November review period, turnover grew in nearly all main service industries, apart from transportation and storage enterprises, where turnover declined. Turnover grew fastest in administrative and support service activities, where growth amounted to 5.4 per cent year-on-year. One year previously, turnover in the industry went up by 2.4 per cent over the same period. The industry of arts, entertainment and recreation also reached good growth of 5.3 per cent, while one year ago the industry's turnover increased by 1.8 per cent.

Professional, scientific and technical activities also developed favourably in the review period, growing by 5.0 per cent year-on-year, while one year earlier growth amounted to 3.7 per cent over the same period. Of the sub-industries of professional, scientific and technical activities, scientific research and development has developed most favourably and turnover grew by as much as 24.4 per cent in September to November from one year ago.

In September to November, the weakest development among the main service industries was still seen in transportation and storage, where turnover fell by 1.4 per cent year-on-year. During the review period, the sub-industries of transportation and storage that developed most favourably was water transport, where turnover increased by 7.5 per cent from one year ago. Development has, in turn, been weakest in land and rail transport, where turnover declined by 1.7 per cent and also in warehousing and support activities for transportation, where turnover declined by 0.1 per cent from last year.
