Turnover of information service activities reached a growth of nearly one-fifth in January to March

According to Statistics Finland, turnover in service industries grew by 3.3 per cent in January to March from the corresponding time period of the year before. One year previously, turnover went up by 3.8 per cent over the same period. Nearly all service industries grew from one year ago. The biggest growth was seen in information services activities, where turnover grew by 18.8 per cent from one year earlier. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

In addition to information service activities, employment activities (+18.3%) and security and investigation activities (+16.3%) were the biggest growth industries among the service sub-industries in January to March. Development was weakest in publishing activities (-3.2%), computer programming (-1.7%), telecommunications (-1.4%), and water transport (-0.5%) in all of which turnover decreased from one year ago.

Among the main service industries, development was most favourable in professional, scientific and technical activities, where turnover increased by 9.1 per cent from one year ago. The share of professional, scientific and technical activities in service industries’ turnover is third largest, 16 per cent. Within the industry, other professional, scientific and technical activities (+13.3%) and architectural and engineering activities (+12.2%) grew most.

Among the main service industries, development was still weakest in transportation and storage, where turnover decreased by 0.3 per cent from one year ago. Transportation and storage has the biggest weight among service industries, measured by turnover the share is 28 per cent. Within the industry, turnover grew only in land and rail transport (+1.6%) and warehousing and support activities for transportation (+1.0%).
