Turnover in service industries increased by 7.7 per cent year-on-year in January to March

According to Statistics Finland, turnover in service industries rose by 7.7 per cent in January to March from the corresponding period of the year before. All service industries grew strongly. Professional, scientific and technical activities (+10.8%) still headed the growth. Administrative and support services activities (+9.1%) and arts, entertainment and recreation activities (+9.4%) grew almost as strongly. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Three months' year-on-year change in turnover in services  (TOL 2008)

The industry of professional, scientific and technical activities was boosted most by other professional, scientific and technical activities (+18.1%). Employment activities (+20.1%) grew particularly among the sub-industries of administrative and support service activities. Of the industry of accommodation and restaurant activities, accommodation rose most (+11.8%).

The industry of transportation and storage grew by 5.4 per cent from the corresponding period of one year ago. Of its sub-industries, land and rail transport rose by 6.5 per cent

Development was quietest in other service activities, though reaching a growth of 4.3 per cent. Of its sub-industries, turnover in repair of computers and personal and household goods fell by 2.8 per cent

Changes in the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data have not so far had an effect on the data of turnover indices

The effects of the changes in the Tax Administration's self-assessed tax data have been analysed in Statistics Finland’s turnover indices. Based on the analyses, the changes have thus far not been found to have significant effects on enterprises’ VAT reporting in terms of statistics production.
