Producer prices for services fell in July-September

Producer prices for services fell by 0.4 per cent in the third quarter of 2009 from the corresponding quarter of the year before. The decrease in prices was particularly caused by decreases in the prices of freight transport by road and sea and coastal freight water transport. The prices in freight transport by road fell by 6.4 per cent and in sea and coastal freight water transport 21.8 per cent in the year. The fall in the prices was curbed by, among other things, increases in the rents of office and business premises and risen prices in architectural and engineering activities.
From second to third quarter, producer prices for services fell by 0.4 percent. The decrease in prices was especially caused by reductions in the prices of management consultancy and hotel services.

Producer price indices for services describe the price development in business services provided by enterprises to other enterprises and the public sector. The total index currently covers about half of the market services.
