Turnover of construction enterprises grew by good 2 per cent in the March to May period
The turnover of construction enterprises grew by 2.5 per cent in the March to May period when compared with the corresponding three-month period of the year before. The development in the turnover improved from the turn of the year, for in the preceding three-month period turnover diminished by nearly 11 per cent. In the latest examination period, turnover increased by 6.2 per cent in building construction, but contracted by 13.1 per cent in civil engineering and by 3.5 per cent in specialised construction from the March to May period of the previous year.
Year-on-year change in turnover in the 3–5/2010 and 3–5/2009 time periods, % (TOL 2008)
The sales volume of construction enterprises grew by 12.8 per cent year-on-year in the March to May period. Over the same period, the sales volume of building construction enterprises grew by 18.3 per cent, that of civil engineering contracted by 15.9 per cent and that of specialised construction activities rose by 15.3 per cent.
The volume index of enterprises’ sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the turnover index series. The strong growth in the sales volume of building construction and specialised construction is partly explained by the fall in tender prices.
