Road traffic accidents claimed 20 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 517 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October In them, 20 persons were killed and 641 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 5 lower and that of persons injured 39 lower than in October 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 9 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 2 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 5 and cyclists 1. Among those who died, 17 were men and 3 were women.

A total of 5,118 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to October period. In them, 228 persons were killed and 6,444 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 19 lower and that of persons injured 463 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 135 travelled by passenger car, 3 by lorry, 7 by van, 16 by motorcycle and 8 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 29 and cyclists 21. In addition, 9 other road users were killed.
