Revised standard industrial classification TOL 2008 will be introduced in statistics on inventories in May 2009

The changeover will not cause major changes to the industry categories by which data from the statistics on manufacturing inventories are published. The biggest change is that in the old TOL2002 classification publishing, printing and reproduction activities (22) were included in manufacturing. In the revised classification they are placed under the main category of information and communication (J) where they are classified as publishing activities (58).

The TOL 2002 categories by which data on manufacturing inventories used to be published were

20-21 Wood and paper industry

23-25 Chemical industry

D Manufacturing n.e.c.

DL Manufacture of electrical and optical equipment

MET-DL Metal industry excl. manufacture of electrical and electronic products

D (15-37) Manufacturing

The TOL 2008 categories by which data on manufacturing inventories will be published are

16-17 Forest industry

19-22 Chemical industry

24-30 Metal industry

26-27 Electrical and electronics industry

D (10-33) Manufacturing

C Manufacturing n.e.c.

MET- (26-27) Metal industry excl. manufacture of electrical and electronic products
