Enterprises’ turnover fell by 1.2 per cent in 2013

Preliminary data on structural business and financial statement statistics cover mining and quarrying, construction, trade and services. According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, their combined turnover was EUR 392 billion in 2013. The turnover generated was EUR 4.9 billion lower than in the year before. The turnover fell in all main industries.

Despite the fall in turnover, manufacturing and services were able to increase their operating result from the previous year by cutting expenses. The industries of trade and construction were not equally successful, as their operating result was lower than in 2012.

The value added generated by enterprises remained nearly unchanged in manufacturing, but there was a slight fall in construction, trade and services. The value added accrued to the enterprise sector amounted to EUR 90.4 billion in 2013.

The data are based on the Tax Administration's business taxation data. The data are supplemented with Statistics Finland's own inquiries.

Statistics Finland has renewed the production of business statistics. From the statistical reference year 2013 onwards, financial statement statistics are published as one set of statistics together with the Business Register data. In connection with the renewal, uniform industries defined by the Business Register were taken into use. Due to changes in industries, the time series are not in all respects fully comparable. The changes in industries are taken retrospectively into account in the comparison year of the preliminary statistics. The data are not comparable with the previous publications of the statistics on Finnish enterprises, because the definition of an enterprise to be included in the statistics has been changed.
