Experts on geospatial information from more than 40 countries gather in Helsinki
The EFGS 2018 conference (European Forum for Geography and Statistics) brings together more than 200 experts on statistics and geospatial information from more than 40 countries in Helsinki from 16 to 18 October 2018. The conference is hosted by Statistics Finland and the National Land Survey of Finland in collaboration with the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) and the EFGS.
This year, the motto for the conference that takes place for the 11th time is “Finding the Future together”. The keynote speakers’ themes concern the future of geospatial information, international cooperation, data visualisation and innovations.
In addition to the keynote speakers of the conference, around 50 presentations will be heard. “There are interesting addresses on, for example, sustainable development indicators, the use of mobile data in statistics production and open source code applications. The quality of statistics and data protection, as well as urban statistics will also be discussed”, says Statistics Finland’s Senior Adviser Marja Tammilehto-Luode.
EFGS (European Forum for Geography and Statistics) is an active network of experts, which started as the result of cooperation between the Nordic countries in 1998. EFGS promotes the use of geospatial information and its seamless integration with statistical data.
Since 2008, Eurostat has supported both the organisation of the annual conference as well as the cooperation projects initiated by EFGS (GEOSTAT).
