Finland in Figures 2024 – statistical figures of a happy nation
Statistics Finland’s new Finland in Figures 2024 publication is an overview of Finnish society. The pocket-sized publication contains information on the population, economy, society and environment as statistical figures and charts. It covers all people living in Finland, their homes, jobs, pay, education, cars, free-time residences and trips.
Extracts from the publication:
- At the end of 2023, the population of Finland was 5,603,851 persons, which is 39,881 persons more than a year earlier. Population growth was based on immigration.
- Natural population increase remained negative. In 2023, the number of live-born children was 43,383, while 61,339 persons died in the same year.
- In 2023, the number of intermunicipal migrations totalled 286,968, which is 8,742 fewer than one year before. Intramunicipal migration also decreased. Their number was 567,664 in total.
- The share of those living alone was 47 per cent of household-dwelling units at the end of 2023.
- By the end of 2022, altogether 3,530,287 persons, or 74.7 per cent of the population aged 15 or over, had completed a qualification after basic level education.
- In 2023, the employment rate of persons aged 20 to 64 was 77.9 per cent and among persons aged 55 to 64 it was 71.7 per cent.
- In 2023, there were 1,442,871 recipients of old-age pension. Disability pension was paid to 179,731 persons.
- The demographic dependency ratio, which describes the number of those aged under 15 and 65 or over per 100 working age persons (aged 15 to 64) was 61.9 in 2023.
- According to preliminary data, gross domestic product per capita was EUR 49,777 last year.
- In 2022, there were 533,811 enterprises employing fewer than five persons, which corresponds to 93.4 per cent of all enterprises. The number of enterprises employing more than 1,000 persons was 124.
