Jussi Heino, Päivi Kasurinen, Harri Lehtinen, Hannele Orjala and Mari Ylä-Jarkko appointed as Heads of Department for Statistics Finland's new organisation
Jussi Heino, Päivi Kasurinen, Harri Lehtinen, Hannele Orjala and Mari Ylä-Jarkko will start as Heads of Department for Statistics Finland's new organisation. They will take up their positions on 1 September 2020.
Hannele Orjala and Mari Ylä-Jarkko are responsible for the two statistical units of the new organisation that operate in the Information and Statistical Process service area. Ms Ylä-Jarkko will act as Head of the Economic Statistics Department and Ms Orjala as Head of the Social Statistics Department. Ms Ylä-Jarkko previously worked as Director of Business Statistics at Statistics Finland and Ms Orjala as Director of Information Services at Statistics Finland. The statistical departments are responsible for the production of statistics describing society and the economy from different perspectives, the effectiveness of data production and the development of the entire set of data.
Jussi Heino will be responsible for Statistics Finland's Data Resources Department, which is in charge of Statistics Finland's data acquisition, maintenance of data warehouses and construction of a database-based operating mode. Mr Heino was previously employed as Director of the Data Collection Department at Statistics Finland. The Economic Statistics, Social Statistics and Data Resources Departments are part of the Information and Statistical Services service area, in which Johanna Laiho-Kauranne is Deputy Director General.
Päivi Kasurinen, future Head of the Development Services Department in the Development and Digitalisation service area, will transfer to Statistics Finland from the position of Development Director at the Finnish Food Authority. Harri Lehtinen, who starts as Head of the Technology Services Department in the same service area was previously employed as Director of ITC Management at Statistics Finland. The task of the Development and Digitalisation service area is to support and facilitate Statistics Finland's data production based on data warehouses and development of digital statistical services. The Deputy Director General of the service area is Mikko Lindholm.
Statistics Finland is undergoing an extensive reform where the aim is to build operating models and a new organisation supporting the objectives of the strategy. The most important objective of the reform is to find the means by which the data resources available to Statistics Finland and the know-how of Statistics Finland's employees can be used to respond in the best possible way to the needs of society and data users in future.
“We have acquired highly skilled and experienced responsibility persons as Heads of Department in the new organisation. The reform affects all Statistics Finland employees and it is great to continue working in cooperation with the now appointed Heads of Department and the personnel,” says Director General Marjo Bruun.
Statistics Finland's new organisation will start operating on 1 September 2020. In addition to the Information and Statistical Process service area and the Development and Digitalisation service area, the new organisation has two other service areas. Of these, Ville Vertanen acts as Deputy Director General of the Partnerships and Ecosystem Relations service area and Pasi Henriksson as Deputy Director General of Enabling Services.
