Up-to-date information on Finland in pocket size

Statistics Finland's newly published Finland in Figures is a compact, 40-page information package in pocket size about Finland and its people. The booklet contains key data on various economic and social topics in the form of statistics and graphs. International comparison data are also included.

Finland in Figures is easy to read and its small size makes it handy to carry with you. Finland in Figures 2012 pocket statistics are available in three languages: Finnish, Swedish and English.

Finland's population exceeded 5.4 million. The population grew by 0.5 per cent from the previous year.
Persons aged 100 or over numbered 664.
There were 183,133 foreign nationals resident in Finland. The largest number of 34,006 of them were Estonian nationals, followed by 29,585 Russian nationals.
Immigrants into the country numbered 29,481 and 12,660 persons emigrated from the country.
Finland's trade balance was EUR 3.7 billion in deficit. Products of the chemical industry were Finland's main export and import goods. Their share was almost 19 per cent of all imports and nearly 22 per cent of all exports.
Sixty-three per cent of households had a flat screen TV, 71 per cent owned a digital camera, 78 per cent had a broadband connection to the Internet and 30 per cent of households had a GPS tracking device in their car.
Finnish residents made almost 4.3 million leisure trips abroad with overnight stay. Over one million of the trips were made to Estonia, around 600,000 to Spain and 380,000 to Sweden.
Finland had nearly two million hectares of protected areas, 13 per cent of them on privately owned land. On top of this, there were 1.5 million hectares of wilderness reserves.
Old-age pension was drawn by 1,134,942 persons, surviving spouse's pension by 262,692 persons and disability pension by 260,453 persons.
General government debt's share of GDP stayed below 60 per cent in 13 of the 27 EU Member States. In Greece the debt was 165 per cent, in Italy 120 per cent and in Ireland and Portugal 108 per cent of GDP. In Finland, the share of the debt was 49 per cent.
