International consulting

Statistics Finland is an active member of the international statistical community. We are committed to complying with international codes of conduct, quality criteria and recommendations for the development, production and dissemination of statistics. Statistics Finland also takes part in knowledge sharing in different domains and supports statistical capacity development in partner countries.

The aim of international statistical consulting is to

  • support less developed countries and countries seeking membership in the EU in the renewal and improvement of their official statistics
  • develop own personnel's international cooperation skills.

The consulting activities impact the production of high-quality and internationally comparable statistical data in countries seeking EU membership, in the European Neighbourhood areas, and in other countries that have requested expert support in the development of their statistical service. Consultation is part of the implementation of the EU's and Finland's foreign and development cooperation policy.

Why is Finland a good partner for international consulting?

Finland is an internationally valued actor in the field of statistics and the Finnish statistical system is consistently top of the class in international comparisons. According to the World Bank's Statistical performance indicatorsExternal link, Finland has been among the top countries for three consecutive years. The assessment includes, for example, the use of data, the quality of services, the coverage of topics, the data sources and the infrastructure – Finland has received high scores in all areas. This strong domestic foundation makes Finland a natural partner also for international statistical consulting.

Statistics Finland has strong expertise and experience in developing statistical capacity around the world. It benefits both the partner countries and the entire international statistical community.
