Finland in Figures 2025 – young people's lives in numbers
NewsFinland in Figures 2025 provides a review from the past to the present day and gives an overview of all statistical topics compiled in Finland. It contains data on the population, economy, employment, pensions, transport and tourism, for example. This year’s theme of the publication is young people in statistics.
For example, the publication shows that last year 77 per cent of those aged 16 to 24 had played or downloaded games on the Internet in the past three months. Forty per cent of them had bought used goods online and 29 per cent had sold their own goods, products or services.
Extracts from the publication:
- At the end of 2024, the population of Finland was 5,635,971 persons, which is 32,120 more than a year earlier. Population growth was based on immigration.
- Natural population increase remained negative. In 2024, the number of live-born children was 43,720, and a total of 58,267 persons died.
- In 2024, there were 2.9 million household-dwelling units in Finland, of which the share of those living alone was 47 per cent.
- By the end of 2023, altogether 3,581,780 persons, or 75.1 per cent of the population aged 15 or over, had completed a qualification after basic level education.
- At the end of the 2023 to 2024 school year, a total of 517,400 persons had a student loan debt and their average student loan was EUR 11,953.
- Last year, the employment rate of persons aged 20 to 64 was 76.7 per cent and among persons aged 15 to 24 it was 41.8 per cent.
- In the 2025 Municipal elections, 16.5 per cent of persons entitled to vote were aged 18 to 29. Altogether 7.8 per cent of the candidates and 5.1 per cent of the elected councillors were aged 18 to 29.
- According to preliminary data, gross domestic product per capita was EUR 49,133 last year.
