According to Statistics Finland, there were 55 labour disputes in Finland in 2021. The number fell clearly from the previous year, when there were 108 labour disputes. The number of employees involved in labour disputes was around 22,500 and the number of working days lost was around 34,100. The number of labour disputes also includes strike threats. The number of actual labour disputes in 2021 was 50 and there were five strike threats.

  • There were a total of 55 labour disputes in Finland in 2021 and this is the lowest recorded number in over 50 years.
  • The number of employees involved in labour disputes was around 22,500 and the number of working days lost was around 34,100.
  • Of the labour disputes 43 were strikes and seven were overtime bans, and the employer side did not declare any lockouts.
  • The number of labour disputes was highest in manufacturing (C), but the number of lost working days was biggest in hotels and restaurants (I).
