Industrial output decreased in September 2023 both from the previous month and from one year back

Output decreased most strongly in the forest industry compared to one year ago

Adjusted for working days, industrial output (C) declined by 2.2 per cent in September from one year earlier. Compared to the previous month, output remained unchanged.

Among the main industries examined in the figure, industrial output grew most in the electrical and electronics industry, by 3.4 per cent from the month before. Growth from August amounted to 2.6 per cent in the metal industry and to 2.4 per cent in the food industry. Output decreased most in mining and quarrying, by 4.9 per cent compared to August. Output fell by 3.8 per cent in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 2.2 per cent in the chemical industry and by 1.5 per cent in the forest industry from the month before.

Output grew most in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply from one year ago, by 4.3 per cent. Output was 3.8 per cent higher in the metal industry and 1.2 per cent higher in the food industry than in September 2022. In all other main industries examined in the figure, output decreased from the previous year. The fall was strongest in the forest industry, 18.8 per cent, and in mining and quarrying, 18.5 per cent compared to the previous year. Output in the electrical and electronics industry decreased by 16.1 per cent and in the chemical industry by 6.0 per cent from the year before.
