According to Statistics Finland, building permits for newbuilding were granted in July to September 2023 for a total of 5.1 million cubic metres, which was 39 per cent less than one year ago. The cubic volume of completed building projects decreased by nine per cent from one year ago.

Read more about the changeIn July to September 2023, the cubic volume of building permits granted for newbuilding was highest in Uusimaa, Central Finland and North Ostrobothnia. Of the regions, more permits in cubic volumes were granted in South Karelia, Central Ostrobothnia, Åland, Lapland, Central Finland and Kainuu than one year earlier.
Measured by cubic volume, most building projects were completed in Uusimaa, North Ostrobothnia and Pirkanmaa in July to September 2023. The highest growth was seen in construction projects completed in South Savo, Åland and Pirkanmaa.
On the level of the whole country, a total of 9,383 new dwellings were completed in building projects. Among the regions, most dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 3,825. The growth in the number of dwellings in completed building projects was highest in the regions of South Savo, Lapland and Päijät-Häme compared to one year ago.
