Number of employed grew and the number of unemployed fell in 2022

According to Statistics Finland's Labour Force Survey, the average number of employed persons aged 15 to 74 was 2,619,000 and that of unemployed persons was 190,000 in 2022. There were 65,000 more employed and 22,000 fewer unemployed persons than in 2021. The employment rate of those aged 15 to 64 was 73.8 per cent in 2022. The employment rate grew by 1.6 percentage points from 2021.

Number of employed persons grew further in 2022

In 2022, the average number of employed persons aged 15 to 74 was 2,619,000, which was 65,000 more than in 2021. There were 46,000 more employed women and 19,000 more employed men than in 2021.

The employment rate of persons aged 15 to 64 was 73.8 per cent in 2022, which was 1.6 percentage points higher than in 2021. The employment rate of men aged 15 to 64 grew from the previous year by 1.1 percentage points to 73.9 per cent and that of women grew by 2.1 percentage points to 73.8 per cent. The employment rates of men and women were almost the same in 2022.

In 2022, the number of employed persons aged 15 to 74 grew most in accommodation and food service activities (I), administrative and support service activities (N) and manufacturing (C) compared to 2021. The number of hours worked by employed persons was 4,103.7 million hours in 2022, which was 0.9 per cent more than one year ago.

The number of employees aged 15 to 74 grew by 72,000 persons and that of self-employed persons decreased by 16,000 persons in 2022 compared to the previous year. The number of employees both in full-time and part-time work grew in 2022. Employees' permanent employment relationships and fixed-term employment relationships also increased.

Number of unemployed decreased from the previous year

In 2022, the average number of unemployed persons aged 15 to 74 was 190,000, which was 22,000 lower than in 2021. The number of unemployed men was 103,000 and that of women 87,000 in 2022.

In 2022, the unemployment rate of people aged 15 to 74 stood at 6.8 per cent, which was 0.9 percentage points lower than in 2021. The unemployment rate of women was 6.4 per cent, having been 7.1 per cent in the year before. Men's unemployment rate was 7.1 per cent and one year earlier it was 8.2 per cent.

Number of people in the inactive population decreased

In 2022, the number of persons aged 15 to 74 in the inactive population was 1,310,000, which was 46,000 fewer than in 2021. The number of women in the inactive population decreased and that of men remained almost unchanged.
