Number of nights spent at accommodation establishments on level with the previous year in July 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, 3.21 million overnight stays were recorded in July 2023, of which 2.62 million were overnight stays by resident tourists. The total number of overnight stays decreased by two per cent from the year before. The number of overnight stays by resident tourists decreased by three per cent compared to July 2022 and that of overnight stays by non-resident tourists increased by five per cent.

Key selections

  • The number of overnight stays decreased most in Pirkanmaa, Uusimaa and Southwest Finland.
  • However, examined in relative terms, the number of overnight stays in Uusimaa decreased only by 2.4 per cent as the number of overnight stays by foreign visitors increased.
  • The biggest countries of origin for foreign tourists were Sweden, Germany and the United States.
  • The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 61 per cent, which is on level with July 2022.
  • The average price of a hotel room was EUR 116, having been EUR 117 one year earlier. On average, hotel rooms were most expensive in South Savo, EUR 161, due to the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
