Number of reported sexual offences grew by 20.5 per cent in January to June 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 233,000 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard during January to June 2023. This is 4.5 per cent more than one year earlier. A total of 611 rapes as defined in the new legislation on sexual offences were recorded.

  • The number of recorded offences against life was 33, which is the same as in January to June 2022.
  • The legislation on sexual offences was amended on 1 January 2023.
  • Altogether 611 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported.
  • In all, 66 reports of non-consensual dissemination of sexual images were reported.
