Number of reported sexual offences on level with the previous year in January to March 2023

According to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, a total of 106,700 offences against the Criminal Code were recorded by the police, customs and border guard during January to March 2023. This is 4.9 per cent more than one year earlier. A total of 278 rapes as defined in the new legislation on sexual offences were recorded.

  • The number of recorded offences against life was 11, which is 10 fewer than in January to March 2022.
  • The legislation on sexual offences was amended on 1 January 2023.
  • Altogether 241 cases of sexual harassment referred to in the new legislation were reported.
  • Altogether 33 reports of non-consensual dissemination of sexual images were reported.
