Total energy consumption decreased by five per cent in 2022
reviewAccording to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, total energy consumption in 2022 amounted to 1.3 million terajoule (TJ), which was five per cent less than in the previous year. The mild weather and the Paperworkers’ Union’s strike at the beginning of the year reduced demand for energy. The impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was also reflected in energy consumption. The consumption of natural gas nearly halved from the previous year after its supply from Russia stopped in May. The high price of electricity in 2022 reduced demand for electricity.
