Number of foreign-language speakers grew by nearly 38,000 persons

According to Statistics Finland's statistics on population structure, the official total population of Finland was 5,563,970 at the end of 2022. In the course of 2022, Finland’s population grew by 15,729 persons. The number of persons speaking Finnish, Swedish or Sami as their native language went down by 22,221 persons, and the number of foreign-language speakers grew by 37,950 persons, which is most in at least 40 years. The statistics do not include Ukrainians who have been granted a residence permit under the Temporary Protection Directive.
