Value of energy imports decreased by 28 per cent in the first quarter of 2023
releaseAccording to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, diverse energy products were imported to Finland to the value of EUR 3.1 billion in January to March 2023, which was 28 per cent less than one year earlier. The value of exports of energy products amounted to EUR 1.7 billion, which was six per cent more than one year previously.

- Among energy products, the biggest examined by value was imports of crude oil (including natural gas condensate) (EUR 1.5 billion). In the first quarter of 2023, imports of crude oil totalled 2.6 million tonnes, or one per cent more than in the year before.
- The value of natural gas imports decreased by 53 per cent in the first quarter of 2023, as the volume of imports fell by 42 per cent compared to the previous year. The import volume of liquefied natural gas fell by 12 per cent and the volume of exports by 98 per cent compared to the year before.
- Imports of electricity in January to March 2023 amounted to 3.2 TWh, which was 49 per cent less than in the year before. Electricity exports totalled 1.8 TWh, which was six per cent less than in the year before.
- The most important energy export products based on the value were medium distillates (EUR 725 million) and motor gasoline (EUR 562 million).
- In the first quarter of 2023, the main import countries for energy products examined by value were Norway, Sweden and Estonia. The most significant export countries for energy were Sweden, the Netherlands and the USA.
