Share of new passers of the matriculation examination in 2021 outside education was unchanged from the year before at 63 per cent

According to Statistics Finland, there were 25,800 new passers of the matriculation examination in the spring term 2021, of whom three fifths were women. Eighty-three per cent of new passers of the matriculation examination applied immediately for further studies either in university education, 49 per cent, in university of applied sciences education, 21 per cent, both in university education and university of applied sciences education, 12 per cent, or in vocational education, 1.4 per cent. Sixty-three per cent of new passers of the matriculation examination did not have a place for further studies. Twenty-two per cent of new passers of the matriculation examination continued in university education, 12 per cent in university of applied sciences education and 2.1 per cent in vocational education.
