According to Statistics Finland, building permits for newbuilding were granted for a total of 4.9 million cubic metres between December 2023 and February 2024, which was 29 per cent lower than one year earlier. Over the same period, building projects totalling 6.8 million cubic metres were completed, 40 per cent down from one year earlier.

Read more about the correctionDuring December 2023 to February 2024, most building permits for newbuilding by volume were granted in Uusimaa, Pirkanmaa and Southwest Finland. Of the regions, the cubic volume granted exceeded that of the previous year in the regions of Kymenlaakso, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta, Päijät-Häme, Central Ostrobothnia, Central Finland and Pirkanmaa.
Measured by cubic volume, most building projects were completed in Uusimaa, Pirkanmaa and North Ostrobothnia between December 2023 and February 2024. Compared to the cubic volume one year earlier, only building projects completed in Kainuu increased.
On the level of the whole country, a total of 7,075 new dwellings were completed in building projects. Among the regions, most dwellings were completed in Uusimaa, 4,182. The number of dwellings in completed building projects grew in the regions of Åland, Kainuu and Kanta-Häme compared to the previous year.
