Value of energy imports fell by 40 per cent in January to September 2023
release | Energy supply and consumption 2023, 3rd quarterAccording to Statistics Finland's preliminary data, energy products were imported to Finland to the value of EUR 8.5 billion in January to September 2023, which was 40 per cent less than one year earlier. The main energy import products based on value were crude oil, medium distillates and other oil products. The value of exports of energy products amounted to EUR 4.9 billion, which was 15 per cent less than one year previously.

- The most important energy export products based on value were medium distillates and motor gasoline.
- In January to September 2023, the import volume of natural gas fell by 68 per cent and that of liquefied natural gas grew nearly six-fold compared to the previous year.
- Imports of electricity in January to September 2023 amounted to 6.5 TWh, which was 57 per cent less than in the year before. Electricity exports totalled six TWh, which was 13 per cent more than in the year before.
- In the second and third quarters, exports of electricity were larger than imports.
- In January to September 2023, the main import countries for energy products examined by value were Norway, Sweden and the USA. Russia accounted for one per cent of the value of imports of energy in January to September 2023, while the corresponding share was 22 per cent one year earlier.
