Turnover in service industries grew by 0.5 per cent in April 2024

Turnover growing slightly in service industries

In service industries, growth in April 2024 was strongest in information and communication activities, where turnover went up by 4.6 per cent from April 2023. At the same time, the volume of the industry grew by 1.6 per cent. The working day adjusted turnover of real estate activities correspondingly rose by 2.5 per cent, while the volume of the industry stayed at 0.8 per cent in April 2024.

Working day adjusted turnover in administrative and support service activities grew by 2.0 per cent in April 2024 from April 2023. At the same time, the volume of the industry fell strongly by 6.1 per cent. In the industry of arts, entertainment and recreation, working day adjusted turnover grew by 1.0 per cent from April 2023.

Working day adjusted turnover in accommodation and food service activities was 0.5 per cent higher than in April 2023, while volume went down by 3.8 per cent. Turnover in transportation and storage had a slight fall of 0.2 per cent in April 2024. At the same time, the volume of the industry contracted by 1.7 per cent.

Working day adjusted turnover in professional, scientific and technical activities fell by 1.2 per cent and volume by 2.9 per cent from April 2023. Among the main service industries, the development was weakest in other service activities, where working day adjusted turnover fell by 3.3 per cent from April 2023.

Turnover and volume falling from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries fell by 0.4 per cent in April 2024 compared to March. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, fell by 0.5 per cent over the same period. In March 2024, turnover fell by 0.2 per cent and volume by 0.3 per cent from February.
