Turnover in service industries grew by 1.5 per cent in May 2024

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 1.5 per cent in May 2024 from May 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, fell by 0.8 per cent over the same period. In April 2024, turnover grew by 0.5 per cent and volume fell by 2.1 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in service industries

In service industries, growth was strongest in May 2024 in professional, scientific and technical activities, where turnover went up by 3.0 per cent from May 2023. At the same time, the volume of the industry nevertheless contracted by 0.7 per cent. Turnover and volume in transportation and storage grew in May 2024. Working day adjusted turnover in the industry rose by 2.6 per cent and volume by 0.9 per cent.

The working day adjusted turnover of information and communication activities went up by 2.5 per cent and volume by 1.6 per cent from May 2023. Other service activities also developed faster than average for service industries. In May 2024, the turnover of the industry rose by 2.2 per cent from the year before.

The working day adjusted turnover of real estate activities rose by 1.2 per cent, while the volume of the industry contracted by 1.3 per cent from May 2023. In the industry of arts, entertainment and recreation, working day adjusted turnover settled at 0.8 per cent in May 2024. Working day adjusted turnover in administrative and support service activities decreased by 0.2 per cent in May 2024 from May 2023. Over the same period, the volume of the industry fell clearly by 4.6 per cent. Working day adjusted turnover in accommodation and food service activities fell by 5.7 per cent from May 2023, while volume went down by 8.7 per cent.

Turnover and volume growing from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries rose by 1.0 per cent in May 2024 compared to April. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went up by 0.7 per cent over the same period. In April 2024, turnover decreased by 0.9 per cent and volume by 0.8 per cent from March.
